- peter costello ( treasurer, liberal party australia), in presenting the 2008 federal budget.20I was going to vote greens this year because i was fed up with lib immigration policy (and labor's was too similar) but then kevin rudd (leader of the labour party and the man who is in the running to be next prime minister of australia against john howard) and julia gillard (his deputy) was such an attractive choice. They are (Relatively) young fresh-faced people. They have vim and vigour! So different from the 'old boy's club' image the liberal party has. Also! As my mom keeps telling me if used to be a diplomat in china and has rather good mandarin ability (probably better than me too, hah). I even love their national broadband objective, love it so much i don't even care if the national broadband *strategy* is shonky. However gillard's industrial relations policy is too...left wing for me (and quite stupid too according to some lawyers...). I've never been a fan of the unions or the down trodden masses, capitalist pig that i am. ANYWAY the lib's budget has a nice surplus to it reinforcing the lib's reputation of financial responsibility (or tight-fisted scrooges, depending on your political bias). Because i'm lazy i haven't actually considered the budget myself but going by the news headlines, round bites and articles in the advertiser, all admittedly dodgy sources (warning do not try at home) i have to say i'm warming up to the libs again. Who can resist costello's ultra smug mug!
